In Florida, reports of "suspicious" windshield replacements are going through the roof. Why? Florida is one state that requires insurance companies to waive the cost of windshield replacement for their customers. This opens up many door-to-door "salesman" that offer to replace your windshield for free (and they, in turn, bill your insurance company). Why is this a bad idea? First off, it really smells of insurance fraud (but that is not up to us to determine), but mainly because windshield replacements can be dangerous if not done properly (read The Dangers of Windshield Replacement). Most of the time, the need for a costly and potentially dangerous replacement can be stopped with a simple windshield repair.
